Identify symbols in a circuit diagram
Scenario
Architects ghar banane se pehle uska blueprint draw karte hain jismein door aur window ke symbols hote hain.
Physics wale wires aur battery ka blueprint kaise draw karte hain?
Mental model
Circuit diagrams physics ki ek language (shorthand) hain taaki real components ko aasani se draw kiya ja sake.
Har baar asli battery ya bulb draw karna mushkil hai. Isliye har component ka ek simple standard symbol banaya gaya hai. Cell ke liye lines, bulb ke liye loop, aur resistor ke liye zigzag line.
Explanation
Ek proper electric circuit ko kagaz par dikhane ke liye hum standard symbols ka istemaal karte hain. In symbols ko universally accept kiya gaya hai.
Ek cell ko draw karne ke liye ek lambi line (positive terminal) aur ek chhoti moti line (negative terminal) banate hain. Jab do ya zyada cells judte hain, toh wo battery banate hain.
Bulb ko ek filament wale loop ki tarah draw kiya jata hai. Resistor, jo rukaawat daalta hai, usko ek zigzag line se darshaya jata hai. Agar resistor ki value change ki ja sakti hai (variable resistance/rheostat), toh zigzag par ek arrow laga dete hain.
Ammeter ko circle mein 'A' aur voltmeter ko 'V' likh kar darshate hain. Switch (ya plug key) ko ek bracket se dikhate hain; agar beech mein dot hai toh circuit closed (ON) hai, warna open (OFF) hai.
Worked example
Problem: Draw a schematic diagram of a circuit consisting of a battery of three cells, a 5 ohm resistor, an ammeter and a plug key, all connected in series.
- Pehle ek battery draw karte hain jisme teen cells series mein hon.
- Phir ek resistor banate hain jise zigzag line kehte hain.
- Ammeter aur switch series mein jodne hain.
- Current direction positive se negative dikhate hain.
Answer: A closed loop containing the symbols for battery, resistor, ammeter, and switch in series.
Problem: How do you distinguish between a fixed resistor and a variable resistor in a diagram?
- Fixed resistor ek simple zigzag line hoti hai.
- Variable resistor (rheostat) us zigzag line ke upar ek teer (arrow) hota hai jo uski value badalna darshata hai.
Answer: Variable resistor has an arrow over the zigzag line, fixed does not.
Key points
- Cell vs Battery: A battery is a combination of two or more cells connected in series.
- Open vs Closed Key: A dot inside the brackets `(.)` means the switch is closed and current flows.
Common mistakes
- Drawing battery incorrectly: Battery diagram mein students same terminals (negative-negative) jod dete hain. Hamesha long line ko short line ke saath jodo.
Recall questions
- What does a zigzag line with an arrow across it represent?
- What does a straight line represent in a circuit diagram?
- What is the symbol for a resistor?
Questions & answers
Draw the symbol of a cell.
A long line and a short thick line parallel to each other.
Approach: Recall the basic symbol.
How is an ammeter connected in a circuit and what is its symbol?
It is connected in series and represented by an 'A' enclosed in a circle.
Approach: Identify the series connection rule for ammeters.
