Define energy
Scenario
Aapka phone jab pura charge hota hai, toh wo bahut saare tasks handle kar sakta hai. Par battery dead ho toh kuch nahi karta.
Is 'battery' ki power ko science ki language mein kya kehte hain jo isko work karne deti hai?
Mental model
Energy basically aapka 'bank balance' hai jisse aap 'work' khareedte ho.
Bina energy ke koi kaam nahi ho sakta. Agar aapke paas energy hai, toh hi aap kisi object par force lagakar usko displace (work) kar sakte ho.
Explanation
Physics mein, energy aur work ka bahut close rishta hai. Asal mein, Energy is simply defined as the capacity to do work. Kisi bhi object ke paas agar kaam karne ki chamta (capacity) hai, toh hum kehte hain usme energy hai.
Jab aap koi work karte ho, toh energy ek body se doosri body mein transfer hoti hai. Jo object work karta hai (jaise ki aap agar dibbe ko dhakka de rahe ho), wo energy lose karta hai. Aur jis object par work kiya jata hai (wo dibba jo move kiya), wo energy gain karta hai.
Kyunki energy ek tareeke se work karne ki capacity hi hai, toh naturally energy ki measurement bhi usi unit mein ki jaati hai jismein work ki hoti hai. Isliye, energy ka SI unit bhi Joule (J) hi hai.
1 Joule energy us energy ko kehte hain jo exactly 1 Joule ka work karne ke liye kaafi ho. Kabhi kabhi baddi energy represent karne ke liye hum kilojoule (kJ) ka use karte hain. Yaad rakhna, `1 kJ = 1000 J`.
Worked example
Problem: A machine does 5000 J of work. How much energy is consumed by the machine, assuming no energy is lost to heat or sound?
- Energy consumed work done ke barabar hi hoti hai agar koi waste na ho.
- Work 5000 J diya gaya hai.
Answer: 5000 J
Problem: If a person has 2 kJ of energy available, how many joules of work can they theoretically perform?
- Pehle kilojoule ko joules mein convert karna hai kyunki standard unit Joule hai.
- 2 kJ ko multiply karenge.
Answer: 2000 J
Key points
- Definition of Energy: Energy is the capacity to do work.
- SI Unit: The SI unit of energy is Joule (J). 1 kJ = 1000 J.
Common mistakes
- Different units for work and energy: Kuch students sochte hain ki work aur energy alag concepts hain toh unit alag honge. Par yaad rakhna, dono ka unit strictly Joule (J) hota hai.
Recall questions
- What is the SI unit of energy?
- Is energy a scalar or vector quantity?
- How many Joules are there in 1 kilojoule?
Questions & answers
What is the relationship between work and energy?
Energy is the capacity to do work, and they share the same unit, the Joule (J).
Approach: Recall the definition that binds them together.
